The Qitup app began with Dennis and John having an undeniable obsession with barbecue and wanting to share their daily creations with each other. Surrounded by friends and family who lived and breathed smoke as much as they did, Dennis and John found themselves lighting up several different group chats with photos of briskets, pork shoulders, and rib racks.
The conversations went deep into the craft—debating precise internal temperatures, wood splits, cook times, custom rub profiles, and specialized pit airflow dynamics. One summer afternoon at a backyard pool party, with whiskey in hand and the offset smoker rolling clean blue smoke, Dennis and John were comparing cook journals on their phones.
It was at that exact moment they knew the community deserved its own sacred ground. Qitup was born so pit lovers everywhere could do what they do best: create authentic BBQ with pride, patience, and unyielding passion.

John has a passion for food and BBQ. Whether it's planning a dinner that is weeks away, or just sharing pictures of something made last night, John loves to talk about it. Living in Idaho, he hopes to spread the love of BBQ to everyone.... Everywhere! Look for John and his Wife Lindsay sporting the Qitup brand!
Gail is Dennis’s wife who regularly tends the grill with him. She also has a love for cooking and grilling, so much so, that she was an area finalist for the hit TV show, Master Chef. She can be found with Dennis judging BBQ competitions around Central Texas. She also keeps track of the financials and administrative functions for the app.
